I can't find any information on the 6.5BR anywhere...now that Hornady has a 120 gr. A-max@ .465 BC, and Seirra has a Match 107gr @ .420BC and a Match 120gr @ .421 BC has anyone been playing with these for the longer shots out to 600 yrds. or longer?? I think that the 30BR for score is great, but might this combo be more stable and have longer legs and be just just as accurate? With the newer powders and great bullets I'm thinking it would certainly be a contender. Anyone out there on the same page?? The new Lapua 6.5X47 is also great, but brass is expensive, same with dies. The 6.5BR would be easy with existing tools...with a little tweaking!! Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated, good shooting, Gary.

Gary, If it's "just as accurate" it loses to the bigger hole. I'll stick with the 30's for now. It'll take a significant improvement in accuracy to overcome the difference in bullet diameter. I just don't think it's there. I hope that it is someday but whatever new technology that helps it may well help the other calibers as well. JMHO.---Mike Ezell

Thanks for your reply, and I do see your point...I'm more interested in the longer distances with the higher BC bullets, and comparable speeds to be accurate at the longer distances. I've got lots of good BR brass around, it might be a project down the road!!

your right, not that much info out there.I am shooting a 6.5brx with the 107sierras.I actually just got it last summer I shot two 600yd matches with it,and I can tell you there is very good potential there.I am just learning the benchrest game last summer was the first time I ever shot in one.

good luck...

Good luck with your shooting...if you get a chance to try the 120's let me know please. What kind of velocities are you getting with the 107??

We have been working with a 6.5 BR on an AR-15 since 07. Works good.

Has heavy 26" Shilin Barrel. 95 Gr Vmax clock at about 2,850. Bolt rifle could do better.

Gary,

Thre is a good section in the Sierra Reloading Manual on the 6.5 BR. I have the CD Version 5 and there is a full range of data for rifle.

thanks for the info folks...looks like I have to update my Sierra manual!!

Not the freshest thread, but anyway..

I have tried the 6.5BR a bit now, and I like it. This gun is set up as a LV gun for learning, and so far it’s a lot better than I am. I get good results with 108gr scenars, and N-135. It works fine up to 900ms in my gun. (with my crono). I used heavily compressed loads with N-140 first, but I get more consistent velocity now. In March, we got a new record in 500m unl 10 round in this little country made by a 13kg 6.5x47. My light 6.5br made third, and I was, and still is a weary happy newbie.

try this

30x47l or 30 super match you get the same vol with high bc 30cal.
