6.5 inch bat

Is the general thought that a 6.5 inch bat action needs firing pin work to shoot to full potential? I'm going to build another 6ppc on a Robertson stock and I don't no what action I am going to use. Any thoughts? Lee

I have been shooting a BAT SV for about 4 years with the factory spring and striker and it has worked very well for me. Teen aggs the last three matches I shot. I have heard from several folks that like the Tungston weight modification by Wayne Campbell and I wouldn't hesitate to add it if I started to notice any inconsistancy. I recently picked up another SV and so far, it has not really wanted to shoot, but I haven't worked with it much.

There seems to be plenty of matches won with 6.5 inch BATS but I really don't have any idea what percentage of them needed firing pin work. Any way, I know it is pretty straight forward to replace the spring and add the weight. Getting the correct trigger hangar in the right position to get the right amount of fall and smooth bolt lift is important too.

The best two shooting guns I ever had built, had BAT SVs on them....oh....The worst two did also. I've had five total and three were great (one is on my varmit rifle) and two weren't. We have talked about why before. I still own one and its a great action, every barrel shoots very well on it. It's the rifle that when I couldn't get a barrel to shoot on another rifle, I screwed it on it. I know you have seen it, Beth shoots it in matches. No work done on it at all.

makes you wonder what those key factors are, doesnt it!! Wish i knew!!!! Lee

One of the biggest key parts is who was in charge of the shop when the action was built, IMHO.. Don't know of a single Tom Dixson action that was a problem child.
