6.5 Grendel

For some reason, I've decided to get another upper for one of my AR's and decided to go with 6.5 Grendel. A day or two of google work seems to show that a good quality upper and some load development can lead to .5 MOA or a touch less along with 800-1000 yard capability and medium size game energy levels. Pushing a 120-130 grain 6.5 to around 2700 fps seems to be a reachable load from a 24" barrel. BR.com describes it as not the best at any particular thing but very good across the board.

I didn't know it when I decided but later found out that the Grendel is really a 6.5 PPC.

Is anyone making 6.5 rounds in the 120-125 grain range, boat tail preferably?
 
I see Berger offers a 120 boattail. There aren't all that many custom 6.5 bullets and few are that light. For hunting, the 120 Nosler Ballistic Tips are excellent. If you considered necking it down to 6mm you would have dozens of choices.

To be clear, a Grendel is similar to, but is NOT a PPC. The shoulder is .070 forward of a ppc and it's capacity, pretty much right between a ppc and a BR case.

Parent case is 220 Russian with, yeah, slightly over PPC capacity, brothers if not twins.

Well actually, a 220 Russian is a necked down and pushed back 7.62x39, designed for hunting. The x39 being the parent. It's not really relevant. Just think of a Grendel as a
PPC Improved and you got this! Lol!

2o yrs ago i developed grendel on 25 cal it is on pacific remers list lou palmiso came to my house for cases i also made bullets for testing 6 5 grendel witch i was told they surpused all records bill brawand

The old Rem x39 brass was small primer. Again, irrelevant because what I have gotten 50 firings from using Lapua 6.5G brass, killed the Rem on the first firing. Thought it was worth a try but I was wrong.:(

I heard old toolsetters at Lake City talking about running something called the x39. I didn't know what they were talkling about. I guess it was supposed to run in a ak-47 during Vietnam? Doug

I have 6PPC cases from the early 80's that are made from 7.62X39 (AK47) cases with both large and small primers

Using these against Sako "ballonhead" and "USA" cases VS modern cases it's easy to test and compare for ignition/velocity/pressure/ES/volume etc
 
The new upper came in, visually at least I'm very happy with it. The net is full of people shooting similar to this and claiming .2 to .3 accuracy. I'm pretty sure the groups aren't measured with calipers or referring to what the gun will do group after group but I'd be real happy with .5-.7 real consistent MOA. I shot the rifle that will contribute the lower for this rig, a Colt H Bar Match Elite, in a club VFS match at Riverbend some time ago. I ended up at 490 for a 100 & 200, don't remember X count and was very happy with that.
