I have a hart barrel with Dave Kiff's .296 neck Norma reamed
chamber 1-8 tw. What load would work with 107's and
what load for 142's . I usually shoot 120's but am all out.

4831sc

in a Krieger 30" 8.5 twist, 51.5 grains or therebouts works just fine for the 142. Best to start somewhat lower and work up.

Bob,

I started with 142 smk's and 51 gr 4831sc and worked to 51.5 in 1/10 inc, and every group of 5 rounds shot really well, but generally better the hotter.

when using the 142 sierra how where is the best place for bullet seating and what about the berger 140 what powder and seating deapth

thanks in advance

I've tried Sierra 142s both jumped and jammed with success - have started using Berger 140 (the older VLDs) and am jamming them, because that's what nearly everyone advises with any Bergers.

I run the 142 at the lands. Have not tried Berger, sorry.

Bob,

Yes, I've started using N165 also. It seems to powder foul a little more than most others, but is known to be a very cool burning powder (Henry Childs, ballistics guru, found it to be the coolest burning of the many powders he measured), which should prolong barrel life - an important consideration when using the 6.5-284. I've calculated that what you pay extra in powder cost, you save somewhat more in barrel wear cost.
