Am playing with an old 6mm-.222 Rem Mag. This cartridge was way before my time so I don't have any firsthand experience with it during the period it was actually competitive, thought I would ask around to see if anyone would share any insights.

Rifle is a single shot built on a 722 action, with a quality b/r type barrel with nice throat, rifling and crown. Chamber accepts cartridges made from necked-up .222 Rem Mag brass loaded with 70g Sierra MKs, no neck turning required.

I started with WW-748 and found a nice node at 28.3g, with no pressure signs. The Sierra manual shows an accuracy load using IMR-4895, so will try that also.

Pls let me know if you have any insights, lore, etc. This is a fun retro benchrest project,

Tim

6x47 things

Hello, this might be more LORE than anything else.
I put together a 700 & 40-x stock, & 40-x 6x47 barrell a year ago, and I couldn't get it to shoot at 200, although bore scoped out well. I tried 748 & 4895, h-322, and a few others. IT shot absolutely great at 100, lousy at 200. Sold the rifle, and a while later the guy was winning at our local matches, didn't change rifle at all, just worked up a load with Benchmark powder.
Dunno if it's true or not, but couple people have mentioned that any cartridge based on the .222MAG case can be challenging to load for.
I kind of wish I had the rifle back. Ha.
Steve.

Tim,
I like the 6x47 it's a neat caliber. I used VV130 and 66gr Cheek bullet.
Try 26 grains of VV130 with no pressure signs. Every rifle is different.
I used Rem 700 action.
Good Luck,

Mike
