5mm 35 smc

Im looking for a caliber that i can shoot the fastest velocities i can Im looking for another prairie dog gun. All i can find is this 5x35smc cal? does anyone have anything good/bad to say about this cal? I hear it can shoot in the upper 4000 fps range.

I know the brass is spendy and the dies aren't cheap.

I called savage arms and they are producing this cal in there long range prosision model through there custom gun shop at a pretty decent price.

Consider the 22s

You have a much better bullet selection with the 22s. I think a 22-243 Middlestead has the record on reloadersnest at over 5200 fps. I have driven 40s over 4500 fps in my 22-250 Ackley.

However speed is not all it is cracked up to be. What good is 5200 fps if you burn the barrel out in 500 rounds or less? The only person I know that had a 5mm wildcat hated it because of the poor bullet selection.

For easy speed consider a 204 Ruger or a 20 Practical (223 necked to a 20).
