541-S remington

I have a 541-S remington that shoots well for maybe 9 out of ten shots. One will go very high, like a half inc at 50 yds. the rest in a .300. It has a factory barrel and 12X scope. I am wondering if any one has found the firing pin to hit to hard in one of these models. Its not an ideal tip on the pin and
my thoughts are its way over powered

Bob, get an extra spring and then start taking one coil at a time out of the original while testing as you go. Several guys up around here got them to shoot pretty good. Jim Stekl [ from Remington] even had one with an adjustable headspace barrel you could click around .001" or so per click.

Ya, for a 22, the bolt lift is horrendous and its firing pin dent is deep and
small. My thought is , its causing all kinds of whip in the barrel when
an ocasional shell doesn't cushion all that energy .
