.444 Marlin

I picked up a .444 Marlin a while back -- great price, couldn't pass it up. I'd rather it had been a .44 Rem Mag, but one gets what's available, sometimes. It's certainly manageable but the .44 RM would be more pleasant to shoot. Magazine capacity would be better, also.

Has anyone tried shortening the case on a .444 and loading it down? I don't even know whether or not the cartridges would feed. Nor, do I know what problems one might encounter (chamber wise) with the shorter version of the cartridge.

It's just a thought -- something I might try unless someone tells me I'll be setting myself up to "blow my head off".

Advise and comments solicited and appreciated.

44Mag load in 444Marlin.

Why bother to shorten the cases. Just put a 44Mag load in your existing cases and about one grain of dacron filler (The stuff that pillows and toys are filled with.) For a good read and a lot of info, have a look at "Marlin owners forum." There is a colum devoted just to 444's.:D
