40xbr trigger

Quite a while ago I posted on another forum that I was having trouble with the trigger on my 40XBR.
I think the rifle is a fairly early one and the number is 052745B
I bought this rifle off the internet, might be around two years ago and was a 222 originally but the guy I bought it off said that he had it re-chambered to 223 and also fluted the barrel just before he sold it to me.
The problem I found was that it would cock and fire every time without a round being chambered but after firing a round it sometimes would not cock the bolt. The guy did mention this but made light of it but I think this is why he sold it on after only owning it for a short while. Still I got it at what I think was a bargain price and this was the first one I had seen for sale in New Zealand.
I found after firing if I touched the trigger after opening the bolt it would cock ok.
The replies I received, suggested that the trigger needed cleaning or the trigger was set too light. Or buy a Timney trigger. The general conclusion being that Remington triggers are pretty good.
I got my local gunsmith to clean it twice after the first cleaning didn't do any good.
He has now stripped the trigger down and found one of the specially shaped springs is not moving one of the little levers as it should do. He wanted me to see this before he put it all back together again as he wasn't happy that he couldn't do any better. This is the first 40XBR he has worked on and says the trigger assembly is different from other Remington rifles he has worked on. He has now set the trigger at just under one pound.
Its a fantastic rifle and if I do my bit will put ten shots into a ragged whole at 100 metres.
Anybody got any comments.
Regards, Roly.
