I am looking for a replacement trigger for my CMP 40XB 22lr. It will be used for benchrest and needs to be 2-3 oz. I have read some on Jewell and Shilen brands but don't know which would suit me best and the availability of a used one. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks - - - Harvey

Match Trigger

Fred, thanks for your response. Are used ones generally available?

Someone elses problem

Sadly, when some sell their quality match triggers, there might be something wrong with it, they can't fix. Buy new, and you get the company that produced it, as your adviser, no charge. I know for a fact, is something went wrong with any of these, they usually fix them for free.

Fred, thanks again. I never thought of that, kinda thought people would be honest.

Benchrest shooters are probably the most honest shooters of any. The tone of your post implies that you have reached the conclusion that they are not. You're not going to save much money so you'd be smart just to buy a new one for the reasons given.

The Jewell in my CMP 40X leaves nothing to be desired. No I'm not saying the trigger from Kelbly's ain't the best thing since sliced bread, but the Jewell cost a lot less, and they were around five years ago when I got this rifle.

The big focus needs to be on the tuner you need for that barrel. Then stock and then???????:)

Looks like somebody's aiming at the wrong target here.

Trigger

I am sorry if I ruffled any feathers, I did not intend to do so. I just wanted a competition trigger for my 40X and was wondering which to buy since there are several on the market. I guess I know more now than when I made my original post. I appreciate all the feedback I have received.

Harvey,

Don't forget the Hart 2oz trigger if for no other reason than the shoe is adjustable for LOP.

Trigger choices

I have several Jewells, a couple of Shilens and an older Hart----they're all very good triggers.

I guess that was aimed at me;

I hope I didn't leave you with the impression, that everyone is dishonest that sells a trigger off their gun. I have just found over the years, that's it's just cheaper in the long run to buy them new, so I would have a warranty, if something went wrong. For your information, the several used triggers I have purchased over the past 45 years had to be sent in for repairs and there was a charge for that work. They were not Shilen's or Jewell's, and not any of the other brands some have mentioned. Maybe I should just quit answering questions like this.

My feathers weren't ruffled at all but I thought the tone of your response indicated you had reached the conclusion that some shooters were not honest. Truth is, some are not so please don't take what I wrote personally. I probably should not have said anything but that was the first impression I got.

I've owned many Jewell's and now own three Kelbly triggers and like the Kelbly's better. They are not available, to my knowledge, with a safety but they are first rate and easily adjustable for four different weights of pull. I still use Jewell's on a couple of rifles but for my competition rifles I've gone to Kelbly's.

My apologies if I came across rudely. It was not my intent at all.

This is getting hilarious, ain't it.

You said that the odd shooter might be a tad sharp. That poor guy that asked the original question said something to the effect that he hadn't considered that.

Then the guy with a photograph of himself wearing (significantly - who knows?) spectacles tipped on that poor guy for sort of agreeing with you.

Then because I tend to buy into things that aren't really my business, I dropped in a message that I thought would lead the guy with the acuity issue to notice that he was on the wrong horse, but to no avail, so then that poor guy who asked the original question apologises again, for crying out loud & gets bucketed a second time.
