I've purchased a 40XRBR thinking I'd be good to go for ARA Benchrest. Now I have a problem. Do I have this 40X worked on or do I try to aquire something already finished. I know of another 40X that was accurized by Davis with a Benchrest/mark? barrel and tuner ($1800.00).

I'd like to have a list of Smiths who specialize in accurizing 40X's in a reasonable period of time. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

You named him

Gene Davis for one, and I hear Richard Gorham also does some fine work on the 40X. Reasonable price and time, that a whole nother ball game. Check out what in the classifued, many times to perfect gun is right there for a fair price.

Have you tried shooting it first? You may find that it shoots exceptionally well and may not need worked on! I have nine Remington 40XB's (most with the thumbhole stock) and find they shoot a lot better than I can!

Yes, I've shot it beside a 504T. The 504 beats it no matter what ammo I use. Everything is tight with no obvious problems. I've used most Eley ammo. It seems to shoot the wolf match extra best.
