40x fireing pin

so tell me how do you recover from shapeing a 40x rimfire fireing pin to short
does brownells sell a stretcher or are you stuck with buying a new pin??

Rimfire or centerfire? If it's a rimfire action, you can either heat it and peen it to make it a few thousandths longer, or just remove it from the firing pin body and make a new one from drill rod and shape/hone to size. Or, order a new one from Dave Kiff, he may have some.
If it's a centerfire I'd just replace it. Dave probably has the pins for CF too.

*Sorry, I misread your post, I reread it and saw you did say it was a rimfire.

I'm not a gunsmith, machinist, or anything remotely resembling either, but logic tells me that if it can be done, it will likely take some heat, a hammer, and a bunch of experience to know how to use the first two.

It's for these reasons I bought a couple replacements from PTG to "play" with.

Don't heat the 40XR f/pin tip as it is silver brazed.
A little drop of TIG weld & blend will fix it.
