Hey Guys/Gals (not necessarily in that order)
first post on BR.com

On my 40x SB the smith I had bed it ended the bedding after the recoil lug (which is bedded) but after that it is completly floating. now.. it looks like a fine job but I was curious.. I thought that you should bed the first inch or so of the barrel ie.. the part right before the taper starts.... any thoughts? it would be easy to add a Pad to this part of the barrel... early 40x w/ original SB if that matters..

Thanks in advance for any input

I don't think that it is necessary to bed past the action. It doesn't seem to make any difference.

My gunsmith, Bill Myers, removed the recoil lug on my 40X when he installed a new barrel and it shoots great. It is only a 22.
