I have a 40-X Rem., serial no.35815B. The barrel is marked C.R. & P.J. Hart. The stock as been replaced, and like new condition. The stock has a brass medallion on the right side of the butt marked, [ 1961
NRA Smallbore Rifle
Any Sight Chanpion]
What would something like this be worth?

6400

German,

In the 70's into the 80's the course of fire grand was still 6400. The score you posted is for one day, not an aggregate. Maybe I misread your post?
I do however agree on the thought for value for the rifle.
John probably had it rebarreled himself as those rifles were factory with the exception of engraving on some as I recall.

B. Johnson,

WAIT Problem here,

B. Johnson, you state the serial as 35815B and a stock dated 1961 The "B" action 40X (40XB) was not introduced until late 1963 - early 1964. The stock may be from the championship rifle but not the barreled action as it didn't come out until two years later and I believe Remington engraved those rifles.

The X to XB change occurred around 22300 serial number so that action has to be about early 70's.

What does the stock look like?

German,

Oct. 61 should have a pic of the rifle. But this is not correct riflewise.

40-x

Your correct about the stock. I got the rifle from a fellow shooter here in Iowa with a very poor stock. John Moschkau was a friend that lived not very far from me. I was in Cedar Falls, He in Waterloo. He let me have the stock. John was a very competitive shooter, and would not hesitate to change anything including that presintation rifle. I have no idea what he did with the barreled action as he was a 52 shooter for as long as I knew him. When he passed away, he had a 52E on his prone rifle. I have no idea where he got that action. Do to a stroke he shot benchrest in his later years. He was just as competitive in that until he passed away.

German,

Great job on researching.
I have pictures of Auer's Rifle from one of his articles and believe it was restocked by Roy Oster and the barrel fluted by Clerk, if it is the same rifle. I also heard a while back that that or another of his rifles was sold, but thats hearsay. If you know the owner I'm sure its as you relate.
B.Johmson has the stock from Johns apparently.
Thanks for straightening out the 61 course of fire.
