338 Lapua imp. Anyone here tinker with one. I may need to do some load development for one with not a lot of time to do it properly. I have worked with 2 regular 338 L. One liked RL 25, one liked H1000 with 250's. We are going to use the Sierra 300 SMK. I have RL22, RL25, H1000, Retumbo, IMR7838, H5010, H870, BMG, AA8700, + some faster powders. I don't want to try every powder on the planet.....Any Ideas?? I usualy LIKE trying everything on the planet. That way I get to shoot more on someone elses dime!!!:D Oh ya...1-10 twist 28" Not necessarily looking for blinding speed, but....;)

Thanks

Tod,
Here are two links to where myself and a couple other 338 shooters talked about our guns, load, and experiences here on BRCentral in the past.

When Berger gets their 338 bullet going I will screw my 338 barrel back on to see what it will do, but until then that brick wall started to hurt from running into it. I shoot a 30 now. Bullets are better and that big BC will not win you matches without a comparable quality bullet to what is available in 6mm, 6.5, and mostly the 30s. That is the cold hard truth based on 4 years of personal data shooting a 338 for all out accuracy in BR competition.

but the 338 is fun to shoot!! that is a lot of horsepower there. ;)

I have a 338 LM Improved on the way. One of the deciding factors in building it was the new Lapua 300 grain 338 bullet. If the Bergers don't get it done, the Lapuas should be good to go, at least that's what some of the tactical guys are saying as far as uniformity and consistency of the Lapua BUllets.

I had one that really liked the 300gr. SMK, Rem. 9 1/2 Magnum primer, & 108.5 grs. 24N41

Pal, try 93H1000, 215M, 300SMK, 3.865" 2825fps with 30" barrel. Pal you may be bit slower with your 28" barrel. Shoots less than 1.2" @ 300 yards. Experiment around that velocity a bit. Rad
