32nd Annual Hog Roast Match Recap

Hot weather greeted the 53 shooters whom attended this past weekend’s 32nd Annual Hog Roast match at the Fairchance Rod and Gun Club in Smithfield, PA. Cool temperatures from the Hog Roast’s normal early May match date we normally experience was replaced by this year’s very hot weather, due to the necessary rescheduled July match date, due to the COVID-19 virus.

This year’s Hog Roast was the 4th U.S. World Team qualifying match of the year and certainly offered shooters the opportunity to earn some additional world team points! It was certainly great to see great friends whom arrived near and far to attend this year’s Hog Roast match.

Sadly, we all felt the loss of Benchrest icon, Smiley Hensley, at this year’s Hog Roast, due to his passing earlier this spring. Smiley was always one of the very first shooters to arrive at the range to prepare for the match and the great times to follow with his many, many friends for sure…!

In addition to Smiley’s passing, our NBRSA Eastern Region was also deeply sadden with the recent, sudden loss of our very good friend, Mark Engle. The list of the friends we have all lost in the last 3 years continues to grow way too fast…

Would ask everyone to please keep both Smiley and Mark and their families intentions in all your daily prayers.

On a very positive note, we saw top performances from young shooters, Kevin Donalds, Jr. and Gavin Peinhardt. Kevin’s great shooting, in all aggs., earned him his first 2-Gun win this weekend. Gavin’s great shooting was also awarded with his first aggregate win, with a fine .1904” in the HV100 aggregate shot in some very challenging wind conditions. Count on these two young and skilled shooters to earn many more aggregate and 2-Gun wins in the near future!
