I have a friend that is putting together a F/TR gun with a Savage and a 308 Shilen barrel (26"). He got a 1:10 twist. I have a lot of experience with 168 and 175 SMK with RE-15 and Varget in a 308W. Never played with the 175 VLD using IMR4895. My only experience with IMR4895 is with 168SMK where I got outstanding accuracy but only on the low side. I was running about 2550 fps.

Anyone use the 175 VLD & IMR4895 combo with success that can give us some tips? Seating depth? Laupa brass. I broke down and gave him a 1k of my Fed 210M primers from my stash.... That hurt, but a friend is a friend....:) Can't find any primers locally.

Thanks for any tips, tim

I've used 41.0 and 42.0 gr of IMR 4895 pushing 175 gr down a 1 in 10 twist shilen barrel @24".

The 41.0 grains duplicates the Federal Gold Medal 175 Match ammo for accuracy but the 42.0 grains duplicates the velocity (2550 fps) from the same barrel.

Both loads are sub 1/2 moa in my gun.

Standard deviation is about 14 and extreme spread is <30 fps

Hope that helps.

Reloader 17

It seems that the new Reloader 17 might be a very good option...more velocity with less pressure, there are a lot of shooters trying, with great results in cartridges of your capacity. Do some searching around for info and loading data...someone is playing with the exact setup out there somewhere! Good shooting and keep us informed on your results. Gary
