But to answer your question on a pet load most stay away from the 168smk and go to the 175. With that bullet and 4064 powder you can find a very accurate for a 308 load.

I use Varget with the 175's as well as the .168's. Great load with little variation based on outdoor temps. The 168's are fine for short range, but they will not make it to 1000 yards reliably. Either one can be pretty harsh on you if you shoot a full match.
I changed to the 6BR for my 1000 yard shoots. All the records in the last 10 years or so have been set with the 6BR or variations of it.

I think there was a record back a few years that was a 308 win..i think at 600yd.
Yes you need to define "br"...100/200/300, 600, or 1000 yd.

From a friend that used to shoot a full 308, 748 or N140. Another friend shoots XBR8208 in a tube gun.

Vince Pastorella, Guy Green, Larry Bryant, Parker Hills, Orland Bunker, John Christman, Homer Culver, John Eaton all shot the 308 at one time. It was my first cartridge in Hunter class.

1/10 twist Barrels . 44.0 grs. of 748 only fills about half case the time I checked it

Trued Remington 700 sleeved with hart 2 oz trigger hart BR stock smithed by Jim hart of hart bbls

41.5 gr H 4895 neck turned Remington brass. federal or Remington Large rifle primer, seated to Jam in the lands My oal 2.800

Hart barrel 14 twist, 168 gr sierra bullet. neck is .340 cases turned to minimum {just enough to clean the necks}

Cases were sorted as to thickness . I also used federal match brass I had some that when turned were a uniform .015 outside measurement with that brass and the sierra bullet was .338

That leaves .002 for expansion. sized in a Redding die with a 337 button, seated with a Wilson seat die to 2.800 oal. - or + .002 and sorted .

My smallest group was a >.155 in moderate conditions. Barrel life was at 2,500 rnds. I noticed accuracy falling off after 1,200 rds . But the rifle still shot decent providing I did my part.

I hope this helps'' Gerry
