308 BAER 12 twist

I have a barrel chambered in 308 Baer for a light gun. It is a 12 twist. Is there anyone out there shooting 190 Bergers with success at 1k. I have plenty of the 190's and some 185's. I also have some 200 Sierra's as well. It has been five or six years since I put a round down this barrel.

Also recomendations for powder. I have plenty of RL-22, RL-25, H1000, and H4831. A recomended velocity range for these bullets would be helpful as well. I'm not looking for load data as I have two other 308 Baers(11 twist, 10 twist). I have clocked 185's at 3300+ behind a stiff charge of RL-22 (years ago) in this barrel back when I thought velocity was king. Now I'm looking for what works in a 12 twist with bullets I can find and buy most of the time. Thanks in advance. Waverly

Waverly, I don't have any concrete information for you, but as I remember, Johnny Byers shot Berger 210s with his 12-twist barrel chambered in .300 Ackley, which is quite close to the Baer. Joel Pendergraft has shot 210s in his 12-twist as well. Another .300 Ackley.

There have been some reports that the 185 Berger shot quite well -- and reports to the the opposite, just what you'd expect. A good lot of the 200 Sierra's will shoot very good. I'd think you have plenty of options.

Rel-25 seems the power of choice these days, but as you say, Rel-22 will also work well. I don't know anyone using H-1000, but why not.

It will probably just boil down to what your barrel prefers. If it is a good one, I'd bet you have a winning combination with material you already have on hand.

Hope to see you at Butner,

Charles
