Hey guys (and gals),

I have a Rem 700 belted magnum I want to get rebarrelled and chambered in a 7mm-WSM. I know the bolt face should be OK, but will the mag box and possibly rails need attention also? I am hoping not.

Thanks,

Jim

You won't need to do a thing. The cases are virtually identical. .050 of shoulder position, same length, same diameter all but the neck.

... often short mags are hard to make feed out of other rifles... try feeding some WSM's out of the magazine now before you convert.

Good call - I'll feed some of my 270wsm into the action when I get home today. Thanks as usual

Sorry bout that reply,

Should word, you shouldn't have to change anything. I was thinking 30WSM to 7. Don't mind me... Obviously length won't be an issue, but I've even heard of bolt faces needing opened (chamfer inside) to feed a wsm case properly when using what used to be a magnum bolt. After a few firings and the base expands, they can get caught in the bolt face or won't tilt out, off the extractor. Keep an eye for that down the road, or make sure your smith has some many times fired cases to work with the bolt.

I had a 300wm rebarrelled to a 300saum.the bolt face was ok and the shell feed ok with new brass.with once fired brass it would not go into the box.I took gun apart put in mill and took .008 off each rail and it works fine now.you will have to check your bolt face wsm cases have a different rim than saum cases.you may have to open up your bolt.good luck 7wsm is a good caliber.:D
