What is your opinion on the 300 WSM for 600/1000 yard bench rest. I want to use the 210grn SMK or 210grn Berger VLD. What kind of velocity can I expect with 300 WSM pushing a 210grn bullet out of a 30" , 1-11 twist barrel. I have heard, with the correct throat, the 300 WSM will push the 210's at around 2850 to 2950. I have even heard that the 3000fps is also been reached with cartridge and bullet combo, is that attainable?

I want to go a Match Chamber for Norma brass with a .337 neck and a long throat for the 190 to 210grn bullets. What type of lead should I go with for these bullets?

I would also like to hear your suggestons on other cartridges if you think there is a better one to go with. I have been hearing that the 300 WSM is a very accurate cartridge for this type of shooting. Any help would be great.

My 300WSM, 190MK's at 2970 with a .533 BC
My 6mmDasher, 105 Berger at 2970 with a .532 BC

I'm not a small guy and I can honestly say the recoil of the 300 doesn't bother me a bit. However, it sure is much more work to shoot because I have to set up behind it differently so as to manage the recoil. I have yet to go a day shooting it without calling a shot and noting a body position/set up consistancy error, almost the opposite with the Dasher. I shoot F Class which is prone, not sure if the BR guys find the set up different.

300WSM is a good choice for both yardages. ES single digits. I use win brass with H4350. 210 sie with 61.5 gr at 2845. 30" broughton 10 twist. Small groups at 600yds.

I am also thinking about going with a 300 Weatherby AI for more velocity with the 210's. I have time to think about it, My Stiller Python will not be done until 2010.

usually more velocity equal less accuracy but more wind cheating ability and energy (if hunting).

Too much recoil...

Those heavy 210gr bullets kick like a mule at those velocities. That is the beauty of 6.5/284. 2950velocity with the 140gr bullets of your choice without the magnum recoil. Highly recommended.
