I'm building a couple 30 WSM's for 1000 yd bench rest. I think I'll need about 300 pieces of brass, 150 for each gun, one lite one heavy, more is better of course.

I can get about 500 pieces of winchester brass or about 300 pieces of Norma or Nosler brass for about the same price. I'm planning to trim and turn necks. Any one have experience with these types of brass and how many will have to be culled after weighing?

My only experience is with Remington brass, so...what type of brass are you shooting in your 300 WSM and how many get tossed per hundred?

Thanks,
Mike

bar none, the winchester should be cheaper, but my experience you will be more discriminating with it, I bought a bunch of it and there were alot of cases that had splits running length ways with the case, lots of very rough necks and weight all over the board. I use the Norma, it is GREAT brass! You will not be disapointed with the Norma. Good luck on your new builds.

Winchester brass has a little more capacity than does Norma (in 300WSM). The heads of the Norma are thicker, and in that, the cases tend to take a little more use/abuse. If you need more capacity, or if your gun just likes the little more boilerroom, use the Win.

Consistency of either is way better than it used to be a few years ago. Early on, WSM brass was about as bad as anything money could buy. It didn't matter what brand, it all sucked. Now, it's pretty nice.
