 I would go with the longer barrel, You'll will be able to hit your accuracy nodes with less powder, and barrel and brass life will increase. With the longer length you can also re-chamer once the throat has eroded. Insead of buying a new barrel. :D

guys, when you brought up rechambering, a light went off in my head...RULES!

i went and looked at ibs and did not see anything but weight, is there a bbl contour rule for 1000yd light or heavy ?

the bbl has a 5 "long, 1.25 dia cylinder on the chamber end and then tapers to .9 one inch from the muzzle.

thanks again..i go see what i can find in the other rules.

There is no rules on barrel contour for IBS that I am aware of. However your light gun must not exceed 17 lbs. The heavy gun class is unlimited. I shoot my dasher in both classes. I weighs 16.19 lbs. I have a 3-31 inch barrels when I ordered my barrels I ordered them not to exceed 7.5 lbs. If you know what you stock, action and scope weighs you can tell them what you need. You can always add weight later if needed. I need to add weight to the butt of the gun because with the length of the barrel it is a little front heavy. I hope this helps you out.

Mike,

I would go with 30" on a 30 cal to be used for 1000 yd BR. I'd be surprised if weight is an issue with the contour you stated.

I would also go with the 30 inch barrel.
On a plain Jane 30-06 a 30 inch barrel will give you 3,000 fps with the 190 Sierra's using 60-61 grains of RE22.
The old standby load for the 300 Mag was always 2930-2950 fps with that same bullet.
The longer barrel shouldn't change the load just the velocity of the load.
