Will a 300 Weatherby with a 30" 1:10 twist barrel stabilise a 240 grain Match King?
Will a longer barrel give much better performance?
Does anyone have any good suggestions for powder? H1000?
TIA

Yes. I wouldn't be surprized if that wasn't the favorite twist for 240s with the larger cases.

Depends on what you mean by "much better." Short answer is no, but that puts the emphasis on "much." If you feel another 50-70 fps or so is worthwhile, you could go to 32 inches. Everything's a compromise though. If weight is a factor, I'd probably not do it.

Been a while since I used 240s. I used Rel-22 (Norma MRP is the same powder under Norma Packaging). This was before Rel-25 was available. As an aside, the Rel-22 we got those days -- mid/late 1990s --was a tad slower than what you get today.

If you have access to a bunch of powder availble, I'd try a few 3-shot groups with everything from 4831 & slower. Always start with a very safe load & work up a bit. The 3-shot groups are to rule things out, anything that shows promise gets more development.

I wouldn't go out & buy all these powders, too expensive. The point is simply you can't tell in advance what will work best. I'll bet a number of people will come on & post their favorite loads. Usually worth trying somebody else's favorite powder, but never any guarantees, each barrel is a different critter.

A 1/10 will work good. I would try H4831SC.

This is a good setup at Williamsport!

30" barrel is plenty
