I just bought a 300 wby with a 30" / 10 twist barrel and will be using a 210 berger vld in it. With this setup can anyone suggest a powder/ gr./ and primer best to shoot 1000yd?

Reloader 25

Emert,
Start at 72gr. and work your way up. Fed 210M primer if you have some.

MY 300 wby with 210 bergers likes 77.0 gr. of rl 22 with 210 match primers.

Thanks for the info. What are the pro's and con's of R22 vs. R25? Dan what speed are you getting with 77 gr. of R22?

76 grains of R22 w/GM215M 210 Berger's seated .020 off. 3020 fps 13fps es. R25 slower powder you'll need more of it to realize same velocity, work up slowly 2-4 grains more depending on lot.
good luck

.300 Ackley

I shoot the 210 VLD Jammed .015" into the lands. With my current lot of Reloader 25, 77 gr. is 3025 fps and 77.5 is 3050 fps for a 31.25" 11" twist 5C Broughton. My Ackley case holds 103 gr. of H2O using Norma .300 WBY brass, unfired .300 WBY was around 97 - 98 gr. of H2O. This cuurent lot is a full 2 grains hotter than my last lot. 79.5 gr will put it way over 3100 fps... That is why I would start around 72 gr. with the .300 WBY chambering. Emert, check out Hawk's Ridge results for the most popular powders. RL22 or RL25 will be what you'll find.

Emert I have no idea the speed of this load just known it shoots well.

I have been looking at this thread for a while and decided to through my 2 cents worth in. When I first got real serious about loading about a dozen years ago I tried every thing I could find. I ended up on RL 22. As soon as RL 25 hit the shelf I did it again and tried several of the powders thad did best along with RL 22 & 25. RL 25 worked a little better still. I tried again last year using Retumbo, AA8700, H1000, and a couple others that slip my mind at the moment. It doesn't matter though, as RL 25 worked best again. I was suprised at the retumbo....it was a close second, but the ES was a little higher and the groups just didn't quite measure up. I was using 215 M primers, Norma brass, & 210 Berger vld's, 30 " Spencer BBL with a 1-10 twist.

I WONDER WHY I AM OUT OF 215M PRIMERS:eek::eek:

Tod- Try this

Try 210M's if you have any. The results may surprise you.

Yes, I have heard that the results have been good , but I will also be using this gun/load for deer and other horned rodents, and in ND that means -xx degrees BELOW zero. Also, I am getting ES numbers around seven with near zero vertical at 1 K. I am thinking that I can get the same results with regular 215"s. Time will tell....I am saving my last 80 215M's for a match this weekend, and the groups I tried yesterday were very good with regular 215's and a mixed lot of "pulled" bullets.

My next BBL will see some 210's though.

Thanks,
Tod
