Gentlemen,

I appologize for asking so many questions, but in shopping for a Nightforce scope I notice a feature called:

2X High-Speed Zero Stop Elevation Knob

Can someone explain exactly what it does, and what value there is in having it on the scope? I do know it adds another $185 to the cost of the scope.

My application is informal shooting matches and varmint hunting.

Thank you in advance,

Gene

Your last comment, the one before "Thank You in advance" Is the reason I would you don't need a Nightforce. You are worried about a $185 option yet you are not realizing that you are spending about a GRAND more than you need to for what you are doing. Get a leupold, save a GRAND kill Vermin and still beat your buddies at informal matches.

2 features;

#1 is the high speed adjustment which means you get twice as much movement (and finer kliks) with each turn of the dial.
#2 is the zero stop which means that oncve your rifle is zero'd you can play with cranks and stuff and then SLAM back to zero.

if you want.

Thank you Paul for your wise council. No doubt you are right about Leupolds for my application, I have several already. However, for the first time in my life I am having a genuine custom rifle built, with Bat action, Brux barrel, etc. (and yes, I know that a Remington 700 would do the same for my application), and so I would like to match the scope to the rifle.

I have finally concluded I can't take it with me, and besides, it will give my kids something to argue over when I croke. :)

Thank you again for your comments.

Thanks Al. Now I better understand.

I would buy a straight 12-42 BR in the reticle of your choice or if you really want the side focus get the NXS but they have 1/4 moa clicks which is not as good for match shooting.

That is not true regarding the NXS and .250 MOA clicks. NF does offer a 12-42 NXS in .125 MOA clicks in select reticle offerings. Its new for 2011. I just ordered one and should have it next week. Will be nice at 1K being able to center up.

BR models are sweet as well.

I have owned and used the Leupold scopes for many years. Been shooting center fire since back in '54. The Leupolds are excellent and the Leupold customer service is the best in the Optics Industry.

Two years ago I sold a few of my rifles and had to spend the money so I ordered a 42 NXS Nightforce. This is the only scope I have every owned that I trust to the point that I can feel safe to twist the knobs during a match. The optics are excellent and the tracking is excellent. The only down side is the added weight.

Update: Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. To let you know the status, I ordered the scope today. It is a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56mm (Matte) 30mm Tube SF (NP-R1 Reticle) 2x High Speed ZERO Stop Elevation Knob.
