284 win gurus....dies question.

I would like to buy FL & seater dies for my (plain) .284win. I need your help/input, please. This is my first long range BR rifle.

Could you please tell me which (maker) dies are best from your experience?
FL die = ...........? Is "bushing type" better???
Seating die = ..........?

Just curious,....if using standard Forster FL die, how many inch is the "typical loaded neck"?..... would it be too large/too small/ok for my .316 neck? (assuming I would like 0.004 clearance total).
Plan to use Lapua 6.5x284 brass...I do not know the factory's neck thickness etc, yet.

Sorry, perhaps just dumb questions, but I'm always newbie to reloading.

Any input will be much appreciated.
Thanks you,
seb.

I like the Redding type S full length dies with the bushings, you will lose some thickness when expanding up the 6.5 brass. you can purchase all the components except the bushings and expierment then purchase the bushings. I think you will have plenty of clearance with the Lapua, Maybe even more than you want. Ron Tilley

Thanks you Tilroot1.
Do you know if the Redding/Forster/Wilson bushings are compatible?
Also do you know the typical clearance between the body/sleeve & the bushing?

By the way, what make you prefer the type S FL die over a standard (non bushing) FL die?...only for neck tension adjustment or other reason(s)?

Sorry...components are not available locally because reloading is basically not allowed in Indonesia (that's why I said I'm always newbie to reloading), it's for my competition rifle (built & stored) in Australia. I will use it the first time this November. Still lot of stuffs need to be prepared/completed...pointing die & meplat uniformer, bump gage & comparator, mini lathe, stock, rings, etc etc. I just can't make the dies & some others myself.

Thanks,
seb.

Seb....you got the same advice from Eric on BR central...he and Ron both are competitors and know what is simple and ez and reliable.....(and the Redding dies work in concert with Kiff reamers!!!) the bushings can be changed if you use win or lapua brass....or would turn em....that way any brass will work.....with a .316 neck you will have aprox. .003 clearance when using Lapua...(use .310 wilson bushing) win is a thou. thinner because it doesnt hav to be necked UP to work....and use a Wilson die to seat em....Roger
