I am building a 280 Ackley Improved and have a reamer question.
I plan on using Berger 180gr VLD bullets. OAL will be quite long.
Do I order a regular 280 AI reamer and a throating reamer or can I order a 280 AI with a longer throat cut?
Thanks

Answered you on the PM forum. Buy a short throat reamer and a throater. It will allow you to play with throat length with different bullets.

Butch gives good advice.

My reamer for 280 Ackley and 180 VLDs has a .240" freebore. That's measured from the end of the 45 degree transition. It has 1 degree 30 minute throat. It has worked well for me. It also works with the 168 grain VLDs. I didn't pick those dimensions. I sent Dave Kiff a couple of dummy rounds and he figured it out. You might consider doing the same. You should also decide on the brass you want to use since different brands vary in the butt.

Thanks Guys
I would send PTG a loaded round (no powder of course) but I don't have a 280 AI fired case.
This will be my first 280 AI. I do have a regular 280 rem that I could load and send but I would think this is not viable because I would think the neck probably shortens when fire forming.

Nosler makes .280 Ackley brass.

I picked up a loaded Nosler factory cartridge at the last gun show.
