270 Win Sporter Barrel

I was given a relatively new (about 100 rounds fired) Douglas #5 sporter barrel that someone hacked the threads up on. To make it work, I would end up with 3/4" of straight section and the case mouth would be where the barrel is about .990 diameter if I set it back. Is that enough meat to support the pressure or is it a little risky?
 
Not risky at all IMHO. If you can lay your hands on a copy of Hatcher's Notebook, he turned down barrels to some extremely thin diameters before they failed.
