Started shooting the .25-06 in 1960 it was a .25-06 neidner! Started with 117 grain bullets and moved to 100 grain and shot rock chucks up to 600 yards. Now use a 87 grain with very good luck. Bullets are better now and with the 87 grain you can shoot anything you want. It is still my first choice. Now on my second rifle in the .25-06. Good luck! craig

I have been a 25-06 shooter for 50 years. I have shot a thousand or so of the 75 VMax tips. The tips from a few years ago seem to do better than the 2005-7 productions. Not sure why. These bullets are good for very high velocity.
Since 2006 I have been shooting the Berger 87gr tips. They are better overall.

Stall, I have shot 75 grain bullets suscesfully in my .250 Curry (a bit more length than the 25-06 AI but otherwise the same). my best target loads were relatively light. I have used 100 grain for white tailed deer. It will get them.

I have shot the 75 VMax in the 25-06.
I shot some in the Factory varmint for score match at Austin Rifle Club about 2 years ago and actually had the tip melt on a few.
At least I think that is what is happening because it happened again a month latter.
When I went to clean the barrel I pulled out some red goup which I believe to be from the plastic tip.
But other than that they seem fine.
I have compared them to the Berger 72 grain hollow point in my 257TED with a 1/12 twist Shilen Select Match and they seem to be pretty close accuracy wise. The Berger might beat them out by about .050 to .075 in group size.
But the Flowler 85 and BIB 87 will beat them all.
That is my personal experience and your results may vary.

Thanks for all the answers to my post. I don't have any of the 87 grain bullets but I do have some of the 85 grain Ball tips. The load I am currently using is 57 grains of 4831sc shooting a sierria 100g HPBT Match bullet This load shoots really good in my 40x, Cloverleaf groups are the norm with my best group being .130 5 shots at 100. My velocity is 3337. The only problem is these bullets do nothing when they hit a varmint. I am considering pulling the sierras and re seating some of the 87G ball tips. I figure that if the gun can Handle the 100 grainers then loading the 85 grain bullets with the same powder charge would be a safe place to start.

75 gr. v-max's or 85 gr. NBT's shoot very good in 1 in10's and are THE 257 bullet for vermin. YMMV.....of course.

i have been using 75g vmax in 25-06 with 1-10 twist. they are the best bullet i have found for my gun. im using 58.5g H4831 with a col of 3.198. they shoot under a inch at 200 yards. i dont have a crono but i can tell ya they are really moving. ive only shot them to 350 yards but they are still doing really good

25-06 and 75 Vmax
I have both 25-06 improved and 25-08 improved. The 25-08 improved has 1:14 twist and shoots the 75Vmax very accurately at almost 3900 fps. A friend of mine also has 25-06 Improved and claims over 4100 fps with it I dont know the twist. Another friend of mine has 25-06 Rem Sendero 1:10 twist and claims at at top velocity the bullets can break up. Dont know it it is correct or not. I have not tried the 75 Vmax from my 25-06 Improved as I feel it is a bit to large for that light bullet or the bullet is a bit to light for that large a case. I shoot the 100gr Sierra Matchking from it at 3600 fps with good accuracy and better wind bucking than the 75 Vmax. If I was to try lighter bullet in it I would rather go for some around 85 gr weight. But if you try the 75 Vmax and it doesnt break up in flight it will waporice smaller varmints judging by my experience from the 25-08 IMP.
Regarding custom bullets, at one time (some 10-15 years ago) I was trying to shoot .25BR Improved in both benchrest and score. Due to unavailibility of bullets the same quality as the 6mm bullets it never shot as well as a 6PPC.
I was later told that the .25 bullets from Fowler were up to the task. I never tried them though. Does anyone know if they are still available or if the Bibs are as good ? At that time the 82 and 87 gr bullets from Berger did not work for me at a Benchrest level, I dont know if they have changed or not.
