240 Smk

Any of you 30 cal guys had any luck with the 240 SMK? I have a few and figured I would give them a try. I have been tinkering with the 210 Bergers. I am having a little trouble finding a load for them, but I am just getting started. Also, weather has been less than pleasant!!  I had GREAT luck with the Berger's in my other gun, which has the exact same chamber and bbl.

Thanks,
Tod

I have shot a lot of 240 SMK bullets, they will really shoot tight groups @ 1000. I shoot them out of a 300 WBY IMP they work well. If you got them shoot them you may like them. What case are you shooting them out of?

I shot the 240's in a 30-06 with a long-throated 1:8" twist barrel and they were great to 1000 yards. I'm using the 210's in another 30-06 with a 1:10" barrel and at 500 and 600 they were fantastic, my 1000 yard test got postponed due to weather.

I am shooting a strait 300 wby, .330 neck, 1-10 twist Spencer. I started a 3 shot ladder test. Started at 73 RL25 in the low 2700's and went up to 77 @ 2900. Those were seated 20 thou off. Nothing to impressive, but then again, I may be having some shooting "issues" of my own to figure out. I loaded up 3 more sets 78, 79, & 80 gr, but this time I am going to try loaded out to the lands. I have run 87 G with 210 Berger's with zero psi signs, but it looked like 80 g at 3040 fps is best. My chronograph craps out on me whenever it gets even a little dark , so I don't have any chrono #s for my hottest loads (87).

What kind of bullet jump (or jam) are you using? How about primers. Lots of guys using 210,s but it hasn't gotten above 50 degrees up here yet, so it's 215's for me for now!!

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE REPLIES

try H4831SC

Try loading some with H4831SC, start about 69 grains and work up. Load the just touching the lands .003" In and try it there.

I use 240 SMK and they work great. I too used to use Berger 210's which are great also but I never shot 2" groups @ 1000 yards with them even when I gave my loading my best effort not saying they wont but I did shoot alot of 4-5" groups and some screamers.
As for the 240's....I have done great with them shooting LOTS of 4" groups as well as more screamers and 2" groups too. Using them to capture the world record was my choice for consistancy going from 4" to 3" to 2" an ultimatly the 1.397" I shot back in July 07.
I'm still using them and as a matter of fact for the first time in TWO years I am finally tuning a new load for my light gun. Making new brass the whole nine yards. My load as of now/then is 85 gr. H-1000 fed 215 Gm 240 SMK at 3004 FPS and 338 Lapua brass shortened and necked down. Great velocity and barrel life and very consistant IF I do my part. Good luck finding your tune.
