I am curious about the 220 russian case as a cartridge using it's current dimensions in either a 20 or 22 caliber. Has anyone experimented with it? Are there reamers available?

George Kelbly shot the 220 russian in group match competition for some time and possibly still does.

I think it would make a great live varmint round with a lightweight 22 bullet and I am wondering how it would work in a fast twist barrel with a 65-69 grain.

I used to shoot groundhogs with the 22 PPC with 40 Gr Nosler Ballistic tips at well over 3800 fps. I don't know about a 220 Russian with a heavy bullet it seems to me it would be better as a PPC.

Nope, it ain't the body taper, it's the large radius at the junction of the neck and shoulder which in this case is .125.
By reducing this radius to .060 on the 220 Beggs cartridge, with no other changes to the standard 220 Russian, the case growth problem was completely eliminated.

I know that Tim Gardner (Douglas Barrels) has used the case in .17 and .20 cal. As I remember, he told me both has great accuracy potential.

There have been quite a number of 20 Beggs rifles built as prairie dog rifles. Arnold Jewell has one and reports muzzle velocities of over 4000 fps with excellent accuracy using H4198 and 39 grain Sierra bullets.
The Hornady sizing die used for the 220 and 6mm Beggs cartridges also works perfectly for the 20. Dave Kiff makes the reamers; a seater die is made by running the reamer into a Wilson 204 Ruger seater.
