22 PPC Questions

Does anyone shoot a 22PPC for anything besides benchrest? Such as varmint? I have a PTG bolt with a PPC bolt face that I have planned to use for a 6mm PPC until I bought a custom action that I am building a 6PPC on. I'm just trying to decide what to do with an action before I invest too much money in parts or brass.
 
If you like shooting vermin with light bullets (and who doesn't?) then the 22PPC is DA' BOMB!

A 22PPC will beat a 22-250 with light bullets.

That said, anything the 22 will do the 6 will do....... better :) F'rinstance, the 6PPC pushes 55's to 3750fps where the 22 won't reach 3700.

Al's right!

With 40 grain V-max its the "BOMB", I put a muzzle brake on mine. Recoils like a 22LR > perfect for CA squirrels, its the best I've ever shot. Uses old 6 PPC brass too, you know, recycling. Build one, you will love it. They don't get much press but work great.

Thanks for the information. I am currently building my first PPC in 6PPC w/ a .262 neck. Does anyone have recommended dimension or particulars on the 22PPC for reference if I am to order a reamer?

Are you doing the build yourself, or is a smith doing the work? I know that this is not the answer that you asked for, but I am going somewhere with this.
 
We have been shooting the 22 WalDog, (0.125 Short 22 PPC) for several years. It is lots of fun.

All of our barrels to date have been 14 twist which shoot up to the 60 gr V Max. The 30 gr flat base Berger is lots of fun and can be made to go very fast.

Our new reamer has an extra long neck, similar to the old 222. We made it this way hoping to improve barrel life. Too early to tell.

Barrel life with the WalDog is quite good.

The smaller case capacity seems to be an improvement over all to the 22 PPC.

The 55's I've tried, Berger MEF and NBT's, won't make 3700 without pressuring out.

52's would make a good varmint bullet. Not as explosive but still good.

So there ya' go Nesika, the 22PPC handily beats the 22-250!
