.22 BR Repeater?

Can a .22 BR bolt gun be built as a repeater?

If yes what action and magazine would be best.

700, 788, 70, Savage, or?

Thanks

A good start would be to consider a box magazine action that will work with a 22-250. The BR is .4"+/- shorter, and may need a filler in the back of the magazine. Was the 22 BR chambered in the 700? If so, parts should be easy to get. Have fun.

John, the short BR cases can at time be problematic when it comes to feeding from a staggered type magazine like the 700's. Part of the reason is the short overall length. With a short case like BR, the angle as it transitions from the magazine into the chamber (in a 700-ish setup) is more severe and you can end up with a 'jam' where the bullet shank and the shoulder are wedged into the back of the chamber. A staggered magazine exacerbates this situation because now you're feeding into the chamber at an angle. The larger the diamter and/or longer the bullet, the less of a problem this is, as the bullet 'guides' the case better...for lack of a better term.

I've got a repeater 22BR on a 700 that feeds from a staggered box magazine just fine after a bit of tweaking, juggling followers and adding an aluminum spacer to the back of the mag. box, though. And I made several 6BR's feed well with the same setup, so it's not impossible to do. A good selection of factory magazine and followers help. Wyatt's makes a BR specific box for the 700's that converts it to a single stack...that's a real nice way to go.

If you don't have an action yet, I'd opt a 700 clone from Borden (Alpine), Kelbly's (Atlas), etc. These have coned bolts..big time help in feeding these short cases.

Good shootin'. -Al

One reason I asked about the 788 is that I have one in .243 and it's just a closet queen.

Wyatts Outdoor is a good tip and I'll save that website.

Thanks to all.

I'll second the 788 choice although it will never be quite as accurate as a front lug action.
