chasing some loads for 22250ai. 1 in 10 twist heavy barrel .I ve tried 55gn nosler ballistics with ADI 2209 and yet to try 2208. im getting .75 "to .10 "with 5 shot groups using maximum loads of 2209 but not real happy yet.it was shooting .50" to .75" groups while fireforming factory federal crackers.I want to try some heavyer projectiles up to 70gns . if anyone could help me out with some loads that would be great. And also just started loadin crackers for 444marlin with 240gn and 265gn hollow point noslers with ADI 2207 but any additional information for these would be greatly appreciated. p.s. have any of you fellas tryed those .224cal 60gn nosler ballistic tips yet.

My 22-250 is quite similar to yours

Same twist, heavy barrel with match chamber and tight neck on a Ruger Model 1. It was done by a very well-known gunsmith. It took mine a while to settle down, which seems to be the usual for those 22 caliber hi velocity rifles. I ended up using 220 Swift reloading data and came up with 2 loads for 55 gr. bullets: 37.1 gr. or IMR 4064 and 37.0 gr of IMR 4895. Using Federal 210M primers and bullets seated .015" off the lands. Accuracy is outstanding, as numerous woodchucks have discovered to their ruin. I make my own bullets, the one for this load is a moly coated 7 ogive flat base hollow point. Hope that helps.

Try not to get frustrated; some barrels just seem to take longer to get going than others. Both of my 220 Swifts were the same way, but the current version now digests almost anything I feed it, as does the 22-250 AI. Yours will come around too.

22250ai

g thanks alot mate i really apprecate your reply.and i realy look up to you for making your own projetiles.i used to help grandad make projectiles for 25/20 38spec 9mm 45 when he was alive but anyway ive just started roo shooting again after nearly 7 years and ive always used a 222rem and 6.5x55 on windy nights.ive got two 222s a savege 110e and a ruger m77 mk2. i was going to change the savage to 220 swt but my gunsmith talked me into changing the ruger to 22 250ai. i was pretty exited when he told me how they proform especially with heavy bullets and tight barrel. i really wanted to make a gun for windy nights so i let him go ahead with it.one problem ive got is a limited range of powder that i can access where i live. Ive aways used ADI powder ,i dont like ball powder and i was gunna try that vihtavuori powder to see how it goes.the other problem is availability of heavyer projectiles.i seen some new 60gn nosler ballistic tips on there website but they wont sent them to me because im not a wholesaler.and my most favourite ADI powder 2206 has been discontinued. ive used it for 15 years in my 222s and they really loved it but anyway im not giving up I'll just find something else.

and best of luck with your 250 and swift.

Nosler ballistic tip

G'day Ozzy. The Australian distributor for Nosler is NIOA, they are in Briso
and only wholesale, but if you look at www. nioa. net. au ,they have a thing on their site where you put in your post code and a list of dealers near you comes up. Projectiles are ok to mail, but heavy little @#*?ers.
I use Nosler .308 165 g spitzers out of my Ruger, because they fly straight and work well.
Those .224 60g orange tips look like they come in a 250 pack which makes them better value.

To jim and blunt shooter

dear jim thanks mate. ive never tried 4895 but i have tryed 2206h and my 222 dosent like it .i think it is slightly slower burning than 2206 and slightly quicker than 2208 but thanks anyway mate.

And to mr Blunt shooter, thanks so much mate for putting me onto that nioa mob ill have i look in a minute at that. And also i was thinking of getting a 308 one day soon, those 165gn noslers sound alright. i really like those tikkas varments cause they got a detachable mag but ill see what happens.

Just courise where abouts in queensland are you, im at oak valley out from townsville

thanks mate

To Ossierooshooter.

Try 63g Sierra semi points avaliable from Rebel gun works in Brisbane. Am pretty sure they do mail order as David knows a lot of roo shooters and they stock this bullet. They shoot ok in my Ruger Swift at around .6" for 5 shots and .3" for 3 shots. I use 44 1/2g of Reloder22 and CCI 250 primer for 3475fps and mild pressures. If you want a fast load try 40g sierra spitzers in front of 34g of 2207 Rem 91/2 primer for 4275fps or the same load with 36g BARNES for 4500fps. both loads shoot sub 1/2" for 5 shots at 100yds in my rifle. Remember that high intensity rifles like the 22/250AI and SWIFT are fussy about seating depth, but for goodness sake don't be a gripper and start moving it around in tiny intervals. Just get a good set of verniers with digital read out from Sam Super Cheap for about 40 bucks and always make the length of your loaded rounds absolutely consistent. My experience with the Swift tells me that sometimes they like to be seated right in and sometimes right out but there is very little middle ground. If you do want to fine tune them a bit use 1mm increments as anything smaller is just a waste of components. Isn't it an expletive about ADI 2206, the new stuff with the H in front of it doesent seem to work properly. Reguards Murphy.

.22-250 a.i.

Interesting!
My .22-250 AI 1 in 14" Hart took about 200 rds. to settle in. My pet load is H380 with 50 grn. Nosler Ballistic Tips travelling at 4150 ft/sec. I forget the exact charge, I'm not near my notes but it is warm and very accurate. I have several Ackleys in different calibers and they really come into their own at the upper cusp of velocity, which is why I think P.O. Ackley was one of the real industry pioneers. Anyone who has shot Ackleys will know what I'm describing.

Sierra 65gr Game King

Can you get H4831 SC? Any how I load 44.9grs of H4831SC behind a 65gr Sierra Game king out of my 22-250AI. I get 3,600 FPS 26" BBL 8" twist. On the Box of bullets they say it will work out of a 10" twist BBL. I get 1/2 MOA at 100 yds through a sporter weight BBL. Oh and the bullets is just touching the lands.

Sorry about the delay fellas , I just got back from a trip and im pleased to say that I tried some 60gn nosler ballistic tips. I am impressed. With 35.1 gns of 2208 i've shot 1/2"moa and sometimes not much bigger out of the window of my toyota .I shot nearly 300 roos,40 cats, 22 pigs and 7 foxes and it seems like it kills more like a 243 with 90gn pills than any other 22250 ive seen or used.

Thanks to everyone

.
