The International Benchrest Shooters 2021 Annual Meeting will be held on January 16th at 9:00 a.m. via a virtual online platform. We are working with a company to make the meeting accessible to all members with access to a smartphone, tablet or computer. Further, in adherence to the IBS bylaws, we will make a provision for the Board of Directors to remotely convene immediately after the members meeting.
This decision was considered by the IBS Executive Committee in response to the current pandemic and its effect on meeting attendance. Going to a virtual format will allow ALL members to attend and take part in the Annual Meeting.
The IBS Annual Meeting is also known as the “Winter Meeting”. Prior to 2020, voting on agenda items required members to travel to Pennsylvania in January. Some years ago, the IBS bylaws were amended to allow for “Internet voting”. Online agenda voting was implemented in February 2020 and was successful. Provisions were also made for mail-in votes on agenda items. I think we may have gotten two ballots in the mail.
Much of the Annual Meeting is comprised of shooter recognition and award of trophies. The upcoming virtual meeting should give shooters wider recognition than the 40-50 members that were in Harrisburg. As to awards, they will either be mailed or presented at that discipline’s National Championships next summer.
We are committed to making the virtual IBS Annual Meeting a success. We have long grown beyond the PA-NY days of the 1970s. With IBS registered matches in Montana, Colorado, Missouri, Minnesota and other states, a new way of doing business has been long overdue. The pandemic may have just accelerated a move to a better way of meeting the needs of ALL IBS members.
My sixth, and final, term as President ends at the conclusion of the January 16th meeting. Please join me in supporting David Mathews (NC) as the incoming IBS President. David pours his heart and soul into benchrest and promotion of the IBS. He is now on the EBoard and is a match director. He created a new range in Tennille, GA (Red, White and Blue range) which has already hosted long range matches, with score shooting on the horizon in 2021. His wife, Donna, is a top shooter herself and keeps the the long range shooter points. The IBS is lucky that David agreed to run for President
