The event schedule as shown will make all shooters who don't shoot unlimited stay an extra day. If the unlimited at 200 were shot last, then all the shooters who shoot LV/SP/HV would be finished. This worked very well for IBS.

So we got the IBS Nationals in the midwest, and the NBRSA Nationals in Pennsylvania? The end is nigh...

Midwest of what? Since about 3/4 of the US is West of Holton. Both Nationals are East of the Mississippi. I sent in a check today for the IBS nationals. I have a family conflict with this years NBRSA nationals, so figured that since Holton was slightly closer than Fairchance, I'd go there. This will be the first time I've ever shot a IBS match, but maybe a different organization, but same people I shoot with every year. Anything that is legal for NBRSA that isn't legal for IBS? Besides the new Sporter rules in NBRSA.

a bolt out of the blue

Mike, I believe the IBS has different rules concerning placing a bolt in your rifle behind the firing line. The last IBS match I attended you had to go to a special location to do it stripped bolt or not. Tim

Also at the end of the relay you are required, under control of the range officer, to lift your bolt in the air and be counted. Not saying good or bad, just the rule.

I read through the IBS rule book online the other day and saw that about the bolt having to be lifted in the air. Hard to miss it as it was in red type. No big deal, just a little different than NBRSA. Also, saw that the HB is 5 - 10 shot groups at 100 and 5 - 10 shot groups at 200. That should take about 3 matches of work out of the HB class as opposed to the UL. I've been in places where I was glad there was 3 more matches and then also wishing there wasn't at other times. All depends upon where you are on the leader board.

Regarding IBS rules: The ability to insert a stripped bolt only in prescribed areas was changed in 2008 or 2009. You CAN insert a stripped bolt in the loading area. We do ask that the shooter insert a colored cable tie or similar as a "flag" that the bolt is safe. There had been some "safety" changes in 2007 after a spate of incidents. Most of those were rolled back thereafter.

The need to "show your bolt" at the end of the relay, I believe, is based on sound reasoning. We almost had a disaster at a shoot in 2006 or so, where a guy came off the line with a closed bolt and a loaded round in the chamber. He was carrying the rifle over his shoulder and when it was pointed out to him that "hey your bolt is in", the rifle discharged into the air (I think I have that story correct...). Out of all the 2007 rule changes, that is one that was left alone.
