2 and 4 screw scope rings

The rings that came with the used 30BR are one 2 screw and one 4 screw. Showing my ignorance again, which one should be up front?

I would put the four screw up front. My theory is that the front of the scope is heavier and the four screw supports the scope better.

Thanks John, I was leaning that way, but it's nice to have some affirmation. The rings came with the rifle but not mounted so I don't know for sure if they were ever on this rifle.

If you are using a heavy scope, NF for example, the 2 screw rings will let the scope move on the gun with a 30 BR. Most people use a pair of 4 screw rings but some use just 1 if weight is an issue.

Mister Stanley makes a good point there. I use the 4 screw rings. Also another option is to look at Harrell,s new bases. They have a stop built in so you can put your rings against the stop to keep the rings from sliding. I don,t think cost any more than other bases. Or maybe less. They also have a web site. If they aren,t shown on the site and you want the bases for a round action give then a call. Nice people there. But if you have a Panda action I would op for the Harrells 4 screw rings.

The scope I got is a used Leupold 45X Competition. The action is a Teddy so I can order a set of DS rings from Kelblys. I might just do that before I head for Raton next week. Looked at the rings on both sites. The Kelblys cost more than the Harrells, of course. I'll talk to each place Monday to make a decision.
