Five shooters came out to watch their pellets get blown all over Hell and Creation today. Actually, I shouldn’t say that as Paul Bendix did manage to firm up his standing on the qualification list by shooting a 706-10X Agg Score. And, for those of you who don’t think a 706 was a good score: all I can say is you should have been sitting next to him trying to better it. It just wouldn’t have happened.
After driving across snow covered roads in order to even get to the Club, we arrived just in time to watch one of our Club members finishing up with the snow blowing of the path downrange after our receiving 5 inches of snow overnight. This gave us more than enough time to get the woodstove going before proceeding with the setting up of the range for our 25M WRABF shoot. The problem was, after the night before’s snowfall we all needed sunglasses as it was a beautifully sunny day, but the reflective glare coming back at us through our scopes was definitely blinding.
While we had been setting up Dan Brown took a wind reading of 8 MPH out across the range. But, with the forecast being what is was, and with our history of shooting at Pinnacle, we all knew that things were only going to get worse. And so they did!
By 10:00 all had been made ready, so I called “Guns-to-the-Line”, and it seems that right at that very moment, as if being prompted by the command, the breezes started to bite down just that much harder. Dan rechecked his gauge after we had finished that first target only to find we had been facing gusts as high as 12 MPH. But it wasn’t over yet. To make a long story short; throughout the course of the match the winds were blowing anywhere from 8 to 15 MPH with the occasional gust going as high as 25 MPH. The worst part was, that is if we needed a worse part, the flags were showing winds coming from everywhere, and then switching to somewhere else just about as fast as you can pull a trigger.
Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
So, how did we do you ask? Well, let’s take a look-see:
In the Under 20 ft/lb HV-B Class:
Paul Bendix shooting a .20 cal. Rapid using JSB’s
Target 1 = 237-3X
Target 2 = 232-2X
Target 3 = 237-5X
AGG. SCORE = 706-10X
Dan Brown shooting a Highly Modified .22 cal. FX Independence using Crosman Premiers
Target 1 = 236-3X
Target 2 = 228-2X
Target 3 = 239-7X
AGG. SCORE = 705-12X
Dave Shattuck shooting a .177 cal. Theoben MFR using Crosman Premiers
Target 1 = 233-3X
Target 2 = 232-5X
Target 3 + 233-4X
AGG. SCORE = 698-12X
In the OVER 20 ft/lb Unlimited Class:
Daniel Finney shooting a .22 cal. Benjamin Maurada using JSB’s
Target 1 = 237-6X
Target 2 = 232-3X
Target 3 = 232-2X
AGG. SCORE = 701-11X
Doug Shea shooting a Highly Modified and Tricked Out .22 cal. Rapid S-Type using JSB’s
Target 1 = 224-1X
Target 2 = 232-1X
Target 3 = 230-3X
AGG. SCORE = 686-5X
And, that’s the way it was!
Our next match isn’t until a month from now on March 26th, that is so long as we don’t have a sudden snow-melt as that could put the range underwater for who knows how long. But, if the match can happen, I hope to see those of you who weren’t able to make today’s match then.
