Hi guys!I recently got hold of a 77 model 70, in 22-250. I had a pre-64 22-250 in the 70s
and it was a coyote killer! I don't know if it had a trigger job on it, but it had a 1.75 lb pull and no creep! This one according to my Lyman digital gauge, it averages 4lbs 13 ozs!
This is just too much! I tried changing the over travel screw spring and adjusting the screw to know avail! I am thinking something inside the trigger assembly needs work, but I can't find anything on how to adjust this trigger! that would to hard to work out, but if there is someone"out there!" That would help me out! I have had light triggers all my life, and don't want to change now! Thanks!:D Doug

If you can not make it lighter by the adjustments provided it will require working the sears and adjusting and probably refitting the safety tolerances.

I would recommend you don't try this yourself, find an experienced 'smith' who will guarantee what he does.

It isn't an over travel screw spring, that spring is the trigger return spring and controls the weight... more weight as it is compressed. It sits over top of the over travel adjustment... there should be a little over travel when adjusted correctly.

Hi Dennis. I had a feeling the spring was the trigger tension spring. and I ust got off the phone with my smith buddy, he told me to bring it to his shop and we would see what we would see. Since I'm not working I might just do some work for hin to help him get caught up! Thanks for the info! Doug

Brownell's Gunsmith kinks has an entry from a used to be head of a service rifle team that covered a lot of detail, including timing. Dunlap's Gunsmithing has a section, as well. Ernie the gunsmith's site has some comments. Expensive, but so far pretty good, alternate is from Jewell.

Thanks for the leads! I did some study and after going to Eds shop today, he just did the overtravel adjustment that I screwed up and it dropped about a pound in pull! It's still heavy but better! I thought you might like to see what the bolt looks like re-jeweled,

, As you can see the smaller pattern, although takes much longer but looks better on a long bolt! This is what I do to add to the SSI I get from social security and I have good rates since I do it for a hobby as well! Thanks for looking! Doug
