Hello, was looking for info for optimum weight berger VLD molly bullet for my 1 in 11 twist 25in barrel rifle Takes a long time to get bergers when orderd from smith so was looking for which weight range would give optimum accuracy for long range with my barrel, The 95g molly bergers seem to shoot the best with my 1 in 10 twist 243 barrel which is same manuf as my 308 barrel, was thinking between the 175 VLD and the 185 VLD bullets both molly, does anyone have info or views with thease bullets for long range shooting thanks paul.

berber 175 vs 185.

The 1-11 is designed for 175 gr.or so they say.I have 3 308 rifles and they each like different things.
A first year production pss with 1-12 will shoot 1/2 min with 168gr. only.
A 5R milspec. 1/11.25 that shoots 175 vld bergers as well as smk's.
The newest build is a Broughton 1-12 30" Less than 1/2 min w/175 vld bergers when seated.005 into lands.
I have tried 185,s in all the above with various loads without much luck and gave up on them

Berger VLDs

Thanks for info guys, Would the 175 berger VLDs be popular for 600-1k matches or wood the Lighter 155g e.g Lapua scenars seem more popular, also with the 175g molly VLD bergers what speed node for long range shooting is reccomended thanks paul.

The 175's seem to be the projectle of choice for 6 to 1k, you may have problems with 155's in a 1-11 twist and they are affected more by the wind. Why handicap yourself with a lighter bullet.shoot what the winners shoot.

Chuck, Have you any fast node fps info with the 175 VLDs, was thinking of trying around 2770 fps when i collect VLDs from smith, thanks paul.

The following is from my log book.
24" 5r 1-11.25 twist.
Load # 1. Win. brass, fed.match primer,43.5 varget.175 vld=2691 fps.
Load # 2. Win. brass, fed.match primer,44.0 varget,175 vld=2711 fps/
Load # 3. as above with 44.5 gr.varget starts to show pressure signs.
Loads #1 & 2 are sub 1/2 min in my rifle.hope this helps.

Load info.

Thanks for info Chuck, did you try any of the RWS 5341 primers with your Loads, read somewhere that they produce a milder flame but are more consistant and offer better sd for long range Loads over the Hotter primers, paul.

With loads 1 & 2 producing SD's of 2 & 4 respectivly and sub 1/2 min vertical groups I figure i've gone as far as I can for right now with load development.
Now its time to learn how to shoot and read the wind.As for other brands of primers why bother when I get above results.
