I've read some posts about a set-up to do work through the head stock using a Victor 16 X 40. If there are any pictures of this set up around, I'd be grateful to see them.

thanks,

Do a search long headstock and Jim Borden post a couple of pictures of his clever idea.

While I could find examples of using backing plates for set up as spyders, I'm not certain of the remaining information I found. If I'm understanding what I've been reading, making an "extension" to fit the barrel inside the headstock and fit into the outboard spyder seems to be a practice of some to compensate for the longer headstock. If I'm not getting this right (imagine that...) any explanations or directions to other posts is appreciated.

BBL extension

An idea..... you'll need a foot of 2" T6061 or some type of aluminum, (7) 1/4-20 set screws.

This will allow indication of a bbl in your lathe with a PTG indicator rod or equivalent.
