11/16/08 Airgun Bench Rest in Temecula, RESULTS

Here is a copy...

...of Larrys post for those unable to find it in Delphi forums.

We had a fine day and a great turnout on our last BR event (11/16/08) of the year here on my ranch in Temecula.

Eight shooters shot for the day, and when the smoke cleared, we lit up the barbie and had some fine potluck lunch!

I have been riding high with this new to me airgun game, benchrest but yesterday I was put soundly in my place by a guy from the South who used my own gun he borrowed to do it! I blame too much partying the night before, but Gary was also at the same party an beat me too!

I made a few changes to my "range" to accommodate more shooters, and now have three cast concrete benches and a heavy metal bench in my garage, facing the bank of targets in my side yard. But is by no means a "wind protected range" as a windflag INSIDE the garage about 10 feet in front of the benches was swinging pretty wildly on several occasions during the match.

Wind was medium, but "switchy, and being of the "Santa Anna type", was mostly coming from the apposite directions I was accustomed to. We fire from 30yds on the IFP target, and use "worst edge scoring", with 25 bulls and points of either one or two, depending on which ring you are inside. A perfect score is 50/50, and (except for Tim), we fired 4 each.

Here are the results:

John Harris 48, 46, 47, 49, 183 tot USFT/(Upright) Hunter

Gary Grewer 41, 39, 41, 48, 169 Daystate MKII

Larry Durham 41, 43, 37, 42 163 USFT

Dave Frederik 36, 39, 43, 44 162 USFT

Chuck Thompson 38, 40, 41, 46 161 USFT

Chip Gibbs 38, 36, 35, 34 153 Theoben Rapid

Roger Lovett 33, 37, 38, 39 147 AZ-FWBP70

Tim McMurray 40, dnf 40 SS-LD

Of course I had motivation to retrieve that post.;) Larry let me borrow his USFT Hunter model PCP. That is one fine air rifle. I am going to put down a deposit tomorrow to get one for myself!! John Harris (aka gordon gauge)

p.s. my first target was a 40, not 48.
