I have a customer looking for a 1000yrd BR stock , he likes the tooley/mcmillan but wants a weight system available with it and that is not avalable from Mcmiilan.
What are most guys useing?

Most guys shoot a stock without a weight system.

The only two reasons for needing a weight system are:

(1) Shooting both 1K Light Gun (17 pounds) and F-class (22 pounds). Most people don't shoot both. I don't shoot F-classs, but the little I've observed, shooters there care about things like cheek pieces, etc. Also, no muzzle break in F-class.

The weight difference, 5 pounds, is a bit much to just put in the butt. Maybe you could put 2 pounds in the butt and one pound in the forearm. For 5 extra pounds, I'd imagine your're going to be strapping weights on somewhere.

And (2)

Someone shooting their LG in the HG class. For IBS competition, the muzzle brake has to come off for HG, but is no limit to weight. Again, you can't get all that much in the butt, esp. without destroying the overall balance of the rifle. Where to add the weight tends to be a individual matter.

You might want to check out Sharp Shooters Supply, they make a laminate stock similar to the Tooley MBR, they also have a stock that they call the "Dog Tracker" and it is very nice. They mostly work on Savage rifles, but from time to time they will do stocks for other guns. I know they have done Pandas, Bats, and many different actions. Something else to consider they stay super busy so sometimes contacting them can be a bit hard, and there will be a bit of weight involved.

For a weight system they drill two holes in the butt of the stock that aluminum tubes are inserted, and held in place by the recoil pad. You then take the tubes and fill them with lead, to balance things out. Once filled you can cut the tubes down, and remove or add weight as needed, you would have to fill the empty space with cut dowel rod, if you remove weight to keep everything tight so that the tubes don’t clunk back and forth. The amount of weight would depend on the stock used, by in my gun I found that each weight, full weighs in at 3lbs, so that would give a total of 6lbs, and the ability to tune down, as much as needed.

When I shoot the 600 Nationals the scales we have at home showed my gun at 16.8 lbs, but the scales at the Nats showed my gun at 17lbs, I just barely passed, but it was nice knowing if it did not I could easily remove weight, but taking off the recoil pad, and taking lead out.

You can get a Shehane Tracker stock with any amount of weight added you want but it's not removable.

If your good you can chop the last several inches off of a Tooley MBR and make a weight out of brass or stainless that resembles the shape of the original stock.
When you need to shoot it as a lightgun it would be all fiberglass with a recoil pad and when you need to pile the weight on it would be all brass or stainless.
There used to be a picture here of a Shehane ST1000 owned by (Riovistashooter) I think his name was Bob and it has just such a system on it.
