I am looking for a scope to mount on top of my Anschutz 1517 (.17 HMR) to use mainly for 100 yard prone competition, but also for some benchrest work. I want something about 25X with target turrets and a target dot reticle. I really like the Leupold FX-3 25X Silhouette. I also like the Nixon Monarch 6-24 x 50 with target dot. Both of these scopes are just about the same price. Also considering the Weaver T-24. So far, I have not been able to find any of these scopes in my area to demo.
I am curious as to which would have a bigger "sweet spot" or "eye box" at 24X. That is the spot where your eye is the right distance from the scope to get the full view. Too narrow a "sweet spot" makes it difficult to position one's head/cheek weld on the stock. Which of these scopes has a bigger "sweet spot" and would be better for shootin prone with a sling at 100 yards?
