This Sunday August 10th at 10:00 AM the Mt Airy Maryland IWLA will host their annual 100 Yard IBS Registered score match. For the past several years it has been hot and Muggy for this match. According to the current weather report it will be surprisingly nice Sunday I hope the weatherman is right .

The match begins at 10 AM, the range gate will be open around 8 AM the range is located on Shirly Bohn Road a couple hundred yards to the East of Woodville Road.

it has been high 40's to low 50's each morning here for the past 2 weeks, not reaching much warmer than high 60's during the day. More like Fall here. Give 'em 'ell this weekend.

Adrian,
There is not a lot of reloading area, it is recommended you bring a pop up canopy. a truck and small trailer could make it down the road but just items in back of a vehicle would be better, its about 200-300 yards down a winding road cut out of the woods. And parking for 10-12 cars max.

Dick, that wouldn't be the same IWLA that had a small range near Cherry Hill Road outside of Beltsville, Maryland at one time? I'm talking about from 1965 or so. Also, do they have a web site?

Mt Airy not Beltsville approx 30 miles NW of Beltsville.

You misunderstand me. At one time about 1965-66 there was an IWLA near Beltsville. They traded the clubhouse and range to the Park Service (I believe) for land in Western Maryland. I am wondering whether this was the same group.

The IWLA that you asked about used to be on Briggs Chaney Rd. The new one is on Mulinix Mill Rd. near Damascus.

What became of the one on Briggs Chaney Road? I was a member when they made the trade. They had big plans for the new location, 1,000 yard range and all that! What happened?

The old IWLA site was sold. The club moved to (near Damascus) on the Montgomery/Howard Co. line. 100 yd rifle range with the worst benches on the planet. Varied programs from trap, skeet, 5 stand sporting clays, air rifle, small bore, cowboy etc. Known as the Widlife Achievement Chapter, this IWL sports one of the largest memberships in the US.

Eddie,
I beg to differ with you, humbly of course, regarding the worst benches on the planet. You haven't been to Lincoln County Rifle Club in Damariscotta, ME. One might as well be shooting on a giant glob of JELLO! --Greg

It just goes to show you different people see things differently. In spite of the fact Damariscotta is 600+ miles from my home I have shot there several times and I have always found as wooden benches go the Damariscotta benches are very good. I have shot off MUCH worse.
And close to home

Dick, yes I guess things are relative. I can't imagine benches, in ultimate accuracy benchrest game, being worse than Damariscotta. I just think it's a bit ironic, after investing thousands in rifles, rests, reloading equipment to try and shoot high scores and records, that we have to fight something as elemental as the bench off of which all those thousands rest. jmho.
