10/22 improved clones

Folks, I know this is a bit of a stretch, but if anyone has any experience with these actions, I would like to hear them. If there is a ranking on quality and accuracy, please feel free to rate them

Ruger 10/22 improved clones

1) Volquartsen stainless .22LR receiver
2) Volquartsen superlite receiver
3) M.O.A. Corp Stainless Steel receiver
4) Clark custom barrel actions


any others I might consider?

In all honesty, I have no idea as to what the best clone is. No idea.

I can however tell you that if you ask the same question at RimfireCentral, you're going to get a flurry of responses (and probably some debate) on the subject pretty quick and will be able to figure out an answer soon.
 
I have an AMT SS receiver with a threaded Barrel. I think it shoots awsome
 
I have a prototype receiver in the safe that is needing finishing. It has 2 action screws, 2 sets of dowel pin holes to allow you to shoot either regular or mag ammo. It also has a tungsten alloy bolt for the magnums. I just haven't had the itch to finish it.

I have a theory on the 10/22 . I have a prototype in the making as i speak....If you want one to shoot with a Bolt-gun, make it a single-shot. Load it 1 @ a time and lock the bolt, with bolt recoil i dont think @ 10/22 could ever farewell, but as many ppl that likes to tinker and shoot the things..I feel shooting one with a locked bolt opens up new horizins..will post how mine does.........
 
I feel what I am building in my prototype may be a 1st but I dunno and dont really care about that part. But i am trying make a "lever" to lock the bolt for single-shot target shooting, then filp the "lever" for semi-auto plinking..so far kinda looks promising..........

I'm pretty sure someone on RFC has already tried this and found it rather inconclusive. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try it though, other methods may be successful.
 
they are pretty to look at. now if you could simply make them shoot as good as they look you might have something;). they are a great stepping stone to get people to shoot in matches. they soon learn and move on to better bolt guns or drop out all together. i personal pumped alot of money into one before listening to guys who knew more. never again.

but honestly they are sure pretty when done right.:D
 
It's funny how everyone pooh-poohs the little 10/22; I'd say most folks either own one or have owned one. Thanks, Douglas
 
i said they were great stepping stones. almost everybody who shoots have owned one. many still do. many love them. that is why there are so many different rifles. i don't much care for them. they are the ak47 of the rifle world. they function when others won't, you can put rounds down range fast, and like the ak47 they aren't the most acurate rifles to be had no matter what you do to them.
 
I have an early AMT 25/22 (all stainless steel)it came in a folding stock and the barrel fits like a 10/22 except
tighter. I put in a 10/22 deluxe stock, a Lothar Walther reverse taper bbl (fits in original bbl channel),
and a modified Volquarsen T-2000 Trigger group.

The 10-22 is a really fun rifle to shoot, especially when customized into a sub-moa rifle. Mine has averaged .37" for 10 consecutive 5-shot groups at 50 yards. I haven't shot serious benchrest matches with it, but others have used them in our unsanctioned Plinker matches within the IR 50/50 Unlimited matches. One guy shot a 244 last year. Not bad for a plinker rifle.

One of the keys to accuracy with the 10-22 is to reduce headspace to about 0.40", so the firing pin doesn't have to drive the round forward during ignition. Crud in the chamber from semi-auto firing is hard to overcome with the wimpy 10-22 firing mechanism and is detrimental to good ignition. Too little headspace can cause slam-fires, however.

There are lots of ways to accurize 10-22s, so they shoot well. Many are given in the Tips and Tricks Forum of RimfireCentral.com.

Everyone who likes to shoot standing on two legs should have an accurate one with a bull barrel. I can shoot one offhand better than any other rifle, due to the forward balance point and the smooth, (but longish) take-up, no-backlash, 2 lb. trigger.

10/22

I bought a MOA from Brownells, A bolt & trigger grp+ return spring from the guys on rimfire Added a new Lilja BBL. Put this into a Bell& carlson stock W/a 36x Weaver then added a tuner. I did every trick to the bolt & trgr. grp. I colld think of or find on rimfire. Cut the head space on a milling machine . pinned the firing pin reconfigured the firing pin polished EVERYTHING reground the back of the bolt , added bolt buffer. Got about a thousand dollars in the gun . It doesnt shoot any better than a ruger I have w/a green mtn. bbl. w/ similar mods. I DO LIKE IT & DONT WANT TO GET RID OF IT .IT will not out shoot my tunered anschutz 54 or my CMP 40 x it will stay w/my 541thb& my NS 522. IMHO they are the very best fun gun you can shoot BUT ARE NOT BENCHREST RIFLES . I own 4 of them & luv them all.

to me the main reason for owning a gun is accuracy not to say i dont own a 1022 but if you want accuracy take the money you will spend on a 1022 getting it set up no less than 1000 to 1200 and spend that and get yourself a bolt action rifle.

you can get 40x and anchutz for about that and be in the game.

not to hurt anyones feelings but the main reason for spending money like that is for accuracy right? take that money and buy yourself a good 40x or an anchutz and have something out of the box.

a bolt action will outshoot a 1022 any day. keep the 1022 as a shell burner and be happy with both. just no comparison.
