Does anyone have any idea where and when the 08 1000yard BR Nationals will be held or when it will be posted on the IBS web page.
Thanks. I am trying to figure out if I'll be off of work and able to attend.

Thanks Dave

If the Nationals are the first or second weekend in September I'll be able to attend. I saw the Hawk's Ridge dates are set and I'll probably be up for matches #5 & #6, possibly a couple of others. I look forward to shooting with you guys again. See if you can get Steve Shelp to show up. I was looking to meet him last year, but he was'nt at the July matches. Thanks again.

Baron,
Suggestion: Open a good cold beer and set it on the cleaning table next to your gear. The first guy that tries to drink it will probably be me. ;)

FYI: I took last year off from competitive shooting. I never pulled a trigger until late August trying to get ready for the Nationals. Trying to get my feet under me again and keeping up with my growing boys. I attended the IBS 600 and 1000yd Nationals and that was it for any shooting in 2007. I'll be back around a little more this year, but not full time like I did for several years. Gotta find that balance in life.

Look for a Bud Light about June! I'll have a couple with your name on them.

guys

do you think the match date will give a couple of weeks split between the nbrsa nats in byers? and is missouri in the mix for the nats someday? tim in tx

Shooters,

Ohio has been told through the grape vine we will be hosting the 1000 yard IBS Nationals and for sure we will be bidding on it at winter meeting in two weeks.
We are looking forward to hosting it and making it bigger and better than it was last time. We have had LOTS of shooters request it be held here for obvious reasons and we are excited about it. I will let everyone know as soon as we know something for sure.

Thanks,
Tom Sarver

I would like to see the nationals at ohio i lok ever day for the 10 match aggs for 2007 and have no luck so do you think your capable to take on such a big event thanks.

In 2004, the Ohio range hosted the nationals, with the second largest attendance of the event. Everything went off without a hitch that year. I don't see why it wouldn't happen again this year. I don't evpect that the attendance will be as high with the higher cost of travel.

The winter meeting will take place this weekend and the Long Range committee will make the final decision on the where the event is to be hosted. I would just about guarantee that it will be Labor Day weekend.

I Agree With Mr Brooks.. The 04 Nationals Ran Very Well. And I See No Problem With The Upcoming Event If It Were Held In Ohio!

Where and when?

Bump back to the top hoping someone will reply.

It was decided at the IBS winter meeting this past weekend that the Nationals will be held at Thunder Valley Rifle Club in Ohio. They will be held over Labor Day weekend. Friday Aug 29th is open for practice and registration, fire record targets Sat and Sun Aug 30/31st, with Monday Sept 1st as a rain date if needed.
We will fire a 3 target agg per rifle being the Ohio club has 20 benches. So 3 record targets for LG and 3 record targets for HG. Just like we have done for the last 3 Nationals in Quantico.

Count Me Out

Well Steve,
That knocks me out! I'll be coming back in from the Gulf of Mexico on Tue. the 2nd. Thanks for the info.

Good job Tom

I'm glad to see ohio got the nationals, I had a great time the last nationals there. Everything ran smooth. I'm also glad to see that it is going to be a 3 target match per gun. I just hope the gas prices don't go thru the roof that weekend.

lou sir

it is probably because toms range is central to all the clubs and there will be at least 200+ shooters this year at toms i am sure, and that is a lot of shooters to run 3 relays with and get them done by the end of the day much less 2 relays.tom and the officers i would think work out the attendance vs time alotted for example,50 shooters 6target,100 shooters4 target, 200 shooters 3 target,250-300 shooters 2 target. the general consensces from what i gathered is ibs wise ,3 day is not needed to run the matches, so everybody can get started home soon.i kinda like that too.but i do like idea of getting to shoot more as well,so where is the compromise?i think they are doing good by going to 3 target agg this is a step forward for sure for atracting shooters and i am sure tom will go above and beyond to make it a very enjoyable event, i am all for it and will make the drive for sure, although lou it would be quite a drive from ca.good luck tom and we will see you there. count me in on the donations as well. tim in tx

Lou

I agree with you that shooting more targets would be better. I would like to see at least a five target agg. Maybe someday. But until that day comes it's about the number of shooters.
The NBRSA Nationals will have four relays. Two shooting and two in the pits. The IBS Nationals will have a minimum of eight relays. There has always been a resistance to go to a longer course of fire. I guess no one likes change. I like the slower pace of the NBRSA Nationals. I say slower but what I mean is we finish up early enough to load for the next day, drink some beer with lunch and see what mischief we can get into. Hell that's why I go. Mischief and beer that is.

Lou,

I have been the strongest and most likely the loudest proponent for more targets at the Nationals. Our club, VA1000 has shot three targets the last three times we hosted the event. However, with the amount of shooters the IBS event draws, normally 100 to 150, shooting more than three targets in two day per class, with twenty benches, is impossible.
If the shooters wanted to show up two days earlier, then a six target agg could be realized.

Further more, I am sure Tom would love it if a bunch folks said that they would love to add to their shooting and show early, pay an extra fee to shoot 3 more targets per class.

I would, any takers? And Lou, did you plan on shooting the event?

Danny

Danny,

Your right there are alot of shooters who want to shoot more. Then they are the ones who do not. We have to find a happy medium for everyone but folks who run the show at clubs know that making everyone happy is impossible.

Your right about shooting more targets taking more time and then we have people upset about more money more brass more time off work and so on.
So many consenquences to shooting more targets. It's Febuary and we have time to adjust to change. But we've been down this road before and controversy awaits us. We need to concentrate on bringing the fun back to the sport and working together.

Dave Tooley mentioned a great idea at the winter meeting maybe he can add to this. But the Nationals is the PLACE to discuss this. Everyone can give their opinion ay that time or vote. This sport is going through growings pains and some are self inflicted. Daves right some folks don't like change.

Example: Allowing muzzlebreaks on light guns in heavy gun competition.
Hmmm.... why not. I brought this up at the winter meeting and I think it got shot down. You can bet I will push this harder this year. This, in MY opinion makes no sence and only retards growth of the sport not to mention money lost to clubs or the IBS.

Anyway more targets are good to me. I think a four target agg would be cool since it doesn't require any more ammo than a regular match held here if you were to win your relays in both matches. Lets decide together?

I know I said we would shoot three targets at the meeting but if the shooters want more lets talk about it. Put someone in charge of research...like contact all 1000 yard shooters and get there vote some how. We are all tied together some way between the clubs. Communication should not be a problem.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom

we are already doing four agenda items for IBS winter meeting next year.

1. to allow muzzle brakes on HG (I wrote it up late last year, but due to time crunch did not get enough signatures)

2. to allow LG to shoot in HG as long as meets all LG rules (only needed if agenda item 1 is voted down like this year)

3.

3. change the date agenda items have to be to the LR committee till one week after the Nationals. IMO dumb to have to submit agenda items to the LR committee before the Nationals. We have no time to discuss and talk as a group.

Current system now gives the LR committee and IBS more time to work the agenda items than the shooters if you look at the actual timetables. Winter meeting is mid Jan, results published (?), shooting really does not start normally in most clubs until April, agenda item has to be to LR committee by 1 July for Jan meeting. That is totally backwards and inhibits change.

I will forward copies of all agenda items and others to each LR club with signature sheets for their own signatures and they can return to me for compilation and submission to LR committee. That way exactly same wording and they can either sign or not sign, but signature sheets can be submitted in one group.
