New Air Rifle Restrictions in the UK?

The UK consists of England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland. Pistols are banned in all but Northern Ireland. Air rifles over 12ft/lbs are classed as firearms in the UK and licensed as such. The recent change is Scotland, who have chosen to license (but not ban) all air weapons...

Leupold or Sightron, which to buy?

I have the Sightron 8-32 for F CLass. If you're shooting FTR, the 18lb weight limit can be a problem so you need a scope weighing about 25 ounces. The 10-60 March is very popular, so is the 8-32 Sightron and the new Nightforce competition. Have a look at the new Vortex 15-60 Golden Eagle -...

Leupold or Sightron, which to buy?

The zoom has a big advantage - you can wind-down the power to see your competitors' targets. Essential for picking up on hard to detect wind changes. Never fire a shot without checking the targets either side.

    .22 ppc .100 short

If you like messing - have a go with a 'short'. It's a lot of work case-forming and admittedly when it works it can be superb - I shot my smallest ever agg. with a 'short' - 0.18in. I was at the Worlds in Austria a few years ago on the next loading bench to Mike Ratigan - I'd brought my 22...

    Ultimate FTR Rig

Building a successful FTR rig is all about weight-saving. The barrel is the starting point - heavy profile - 1.25 to 1 inch at the muzzle - 30 inches long at least. Yes, the heavy bullets are taking over, so think c. 200gn. Action - the BAT M is a great action but it's a pound heavier than the...

Help me decide on Rempel or Seb JoyPro.

I think you're right about the Remple - but no competitive FTR rifle can take that weight penalty. The only downside of that style of bi-pod - if shooting uphill, the feet get close together - with loss of stability. The SEB joypod has it all - fixed span, very light and easy to set up. Vince(UK)

Zane - I've tried most of the bi-pods - but I now shoot a SEB Joypod. Why? It's very light, very strong, maintains a constant span, very positive adjustment and tracks very well under recoil. Vince (UK)

Yup - definitely not an EVO from the UK. Check out www.ospreyrifles.com for a pic of an EVO bi-pod. Vince (UK)

Help me decide on Rempel or Seb JoyPro.

Sorry - I meant £200 - which is about $300. Fox Firearms www.foxfireamsuk.com is selling them for £200. If you're working out barrel-length - an inch weighs about 4oz - of course, this will vary with dia. and calibre but it's a start. Most competitive FTR rifles will have a 30 inch...

Forgot to mention - I use a SEB Joypod myself - I love it but I don't use the joystick - all my adjustments are made by squeezing the rear bag. Vince (UK)

Check out the EVO bi-pod before you buy. It's very similar to the Remple but about half the weight. Will cost you around $200. Although the heavy Remple isn't an issue now, it could be if you get serious about your FTR shooting and go for a long barrelled rifle. Vince (UK)

Don't Cerakote the inside of the action or the bolt-body - just do the handle and shroud. Vince (UK)

    Thoughts on Benchrest Competition

This has been an interesting read - for a UK benchrest shooter! Of course, here in the UK, benchrest has only exisisted for about 25 years and we greatly envy the American scene. Nonetheless, Brits have attended every World Championship to date. We have around 30 shooters and typically about...

    6PPC cracked necks

Chris, I've never seen this in 20 years of shooting the 6PPC - until last season when one of our (very experienced) shooters got exactly the same problem. Could it be a batch of brass we have in the UK - where turnover is relatively low compared to the US? Vince (UK)

Which Sightron scope would you recommend

I use the Sightron 8 -32 with the LRMOA reticle for F Class out to 1000 yards. It's fairly light with plenty of adjustment and good optics - and it's very competitively priced. Vince (UK)

    243 Winchester X 6-47 Lapua

I shoot the 6x47 Lapua as do quite a few of my clubmates in F Class competition and 600 yd benchrest. Reloader 17 provides excellent velocities and accuracy with the 105gn Berger VLD. Vince (UK)
