    21 and 3/4 barrel length

I'd like to direct this question to someone who might know. The barrel length of 21 3/4 as credited to Jim Gilmore and followed by Virgil King in the warehouse article. Is that total length with tenon or without. I am , not referring to the legal definition, but what Jim meant. Different...

    Update on barrel cleaners

First, I'm not on Iosso's payroll, I just use it. That said, Today I was trying to clean up a set of Kelbly rings. Soaked in Brake cleaner and MEK. That failing, I used a old toothbrush and Iosso. Worked great, never shined them at all, just removed the stuff that discolors the bead...

    Non abrasive barrel cleaners

Following some recent threads on barrel cleaners, I bought some slip 2000. Today , I got a good candidate, a Remchester that had seen little cleaning, according to my borescope. After 15 minutes and 3 wet patches spaced 5 mins apart, I dry patched it. I was awarded with some light brown...

    Rifle Balance

Its been said here and elsewhere that a Benchrest rifle should balance at the front of the action. Does this play out as good or should it be a bit forward or back from that. Can you have to much weight in the butstock.

    Need a better Trickler

Would like to see someone make a better powder trickler. Maybe smooth bore at the end, maybe no threads, just a slight downward tilt. All the ones I have will clump at times right at the end, dropping 3-4 kernals at one time. Think there would be a good market for this

    Parallax adjustment

I recently added a new scope to my gun. Its 40X the same as the others I have on BR rifles. I noticed today, that when the focus is very sharp, I still had some parallax. Adjusting it slightly off peak sharpness , parallax was better. What causes this? 2nd question, You have just arrived...

    Small flasholes in 6.5x 47

Shooting my 6.5 x 47 today and noticed while making changes in seating depth, my point of impact changes drastically. Using Vld bullets changes of .005 per group and spanning .025 total for the day, I can cause my POI to change by 2-2 1/2 inches at 150 yds. I can also return to the...

    Sierra bullets - 6.5--107 gr

I was shooting the sierra 107 grain, ran out of old lot and opened a new box from different lot. The new lot is much longer , having more bearing surface, like maybe 80 thou. These are actually very similiar to the 123gr sierra. Seems odd they would change that much. Anyone know...

    Primer pockets getting tighter

Seems very rare, but my primer pockets are getting very tight. lapua brass in 6ppc. Same primers for the last two years. Case heads are flat as is the bolt face. They are tight enough that once in awhile a primer cannot be seated to the bottom. I reamed some pockets with a...

Savage 12 Bench rest for short range

I really think Savage is missing something in their line up. At no real additional cost, They Model 12 with the low profile stock could be brought out with a flat bottom stock in 223--6BR--30BR. This would be a great start for many who would like to compete in short range score and even...

    View from my window

I awoke this morning just at daybreak. Looking out my bedroom window I saw three bucks having a light sparing contest a mere 30 ft away. The lesser buck didn't stay long, but the other two kept at it for 5 mins. Both 10 pts and 18-19 inch category. A half dozen does somewhat...

    Rail Gun Vibrations

Harold Vaughn used counter weights to dampen out moments in the barrel mounting and upper I -beam. Finding that the I-beam on my rail rings like a gong, I'm looking for a way to deaden this. I'd prefer not adding more weight. Any suggestions on how that could be changed

    Primer stuff

I have disassembled some CCI-BR2 and CCI-450's. I suspected they may share the same cup thickness and they do. Both measure .027 thickness.I think it reasonable that CCI would use the same raw stock , therefore the pressure capability would be similar
